Our Pastoral Care and Behaviour Management

House System

On enrolment each student becomes a member of one of five Houses – Farrelly, Heenan, Moore, Chanel or MacKillop. Each House is divided into Homeroom groups which contain students from each year level. Teachers are assigned to each Homeroom which meets daily for prayer, notices, roll call and aims to create a sense of belonging among the members of the group.

The House system encourages students to participate in Inter-House activities, celebrate student success and promote House spirit. A Head of House assists students in their House to meet behavioural and academic expectations and is supportive through pastoral care initiatives.

CHANEL HOUSE

Respect all, fear none.
This House is named after St Peter Chanel, a great Marist saint who assisted in bringing Christianity to the Futuna Island in the Pacific. Following his death, Chanel was declared a martyr and beatified in 1889 and canonized in 1954. He was a man of obvious courage, faith and inspiration.

MACKILLOP HOUSE
Ubi Concordia, Ibi Victoria
Where there is unity,
there is victory
Our newest House is named after St Mary MacKillop, Australia's first and only saint. The Josephites have strong ties to the Emerald area due to their love of rural communities and having founded a school outside of Clermont. Mary died on August 8, 1909 and was canonised on 17 October 2010, to be known as St Mary of the Cross.

MOORE HOUSE
Post Prolia Pramia
After the battle come the rewards
This House was named in honour of Fr Daniel Moore, Parish Priest of Emerald when the College began. Born and educated in Ireland, Fr Dan served in many parishes in the Diocese of Rockhampton before arriving in Emerald in 1995. His positive enthusiasm and love of people proved an early inspiration to the Marist College community.
