OUR MARIST HERITAGE
Marist College Emerald is one of a large number of Marist schools established throughout Australia and the world. The link between each of these schools is what we call “Marist Education”.
Marist education is a world-wide movement found in over 75 countries around the globe. It is dedicated to a distinctive way of educating in the Catholic tradition. It follows the pedagogical principles developed by its 19th Century founder, Saint Marcellin Champagnat, wh o believed that all young people could become ‘good Christians’ and ‘good citizens’. He sought to educate young men and women who would be ‘strong in mind’ and ‘gentle of heart’.
Marist education is faith-centered, holistic, consolidated, achievement oriented, based on enhancement of self-esteem, and is undertaken in schools marked by their ‘family spirit’, warmth, extensive adult mentoring of students, lack of pretence, and where the Gospel is the guide for all that happens.
As a modern Marist College we strive to continue our nurturing and dynamic relationship with the Australian and International network of Marist schools. Marist Emerald is administered by the Sydney Province of Australian Marist Brothers.
Farrelly House’ is named after Brother Mark Farrelly, a Marist Brother who spent his early life in Clermont and who strongly encouraged the establishment of a Marist College at Emerald.
Annually our College participates in in-service programs created and facilitated by Marist Brothers. In addition, our students benefit from regular contact with Queensland Marist Colleges.

OUR STORY
Marist College Emerald is a Catholic Co-educational Secondary College situated in the Central Highlands, three hours west of Rockhampton. The College draws students from Emerald as well as surrounding rural areas including Gindie, Springsure, the Gemfields, Capella and many rural properties.
The College commenced Year 8 classes in 1996 with the first Year 12 class graduating in 2000. In 2006 the College celebrated ten years of Catholic Secondary Education on the Central Highlands. The College could not have experienced the success it has already achieved if it were not for the support and dedication of the local Catholic and town community.
Marist College operates under the supervision of the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton under the auspices of the Bishop of Rockhampton. The Director of the Diocesan Catholic Education Office administers Catholic Schools on behalf of the Bishop.

Whilst servicing the Catholic community, Marist is open to all who share the ideals and ethos of the community it serves. Low fees are charged so that financial circumstances are not a barrier to enrolment.
“I beg of you, ... do all you can to ensure that charity is always maintained among you. Love one another as Jesus has loved you. Be of one heart and one mind.”
- Spiritual Testament of Marcellin Champagnat

MARIST CHARISM
The spirituality and distinctive style of the Christian education at Marist College Emerald, is “Marist”. Based on the life, history and teachings of St. Marcellin Champagnat (18th century France), Marist College promotes Christian values through its: family spirit and hospitality; by trying to do things simply with openness, honesty and transparency; by affecting students lives by our personal presence to them; by valuing and respecting honest hard work; and by doing things in the way of Mary as she ‘walked with’ , accompanied and supported Jesus throughout his life, so too does Marist College walk with and accompany our students.
