Representing Marist College

PASTORAL CARE

  • The concern the school has for the development of the person to full potential – social, emotional, spiritual,    intellectual and physical
  • The responsibility of all in the College, with members contributing in appropriate ways according to their roles    and responsibilities
  • Aimed at acknowledging and responding to all students
  • Is in harmony with clear, consistent and just disciplinary practices

  • Marist College Emerald endeavours to have a pastoral care climate based on the notion of family spirit and Marist charism. Our Mission Statement and motto are also important touchstones for how we form relationships and make decisions. The Truth will set you Free encourages a climate of honesty, accountability and search for the ultimate Truths in life.

Marist schools have five characteristics which particularly inform ‘how we do things around here’. A summary is outlined below.

    BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT

Behaviour Management is the process by which a school ensures appropriateness and consistency of student behaviour.  It is most successful when it encourages students to develop responsibility for their own behaviour.  A system of rules and consequences are only one aspect to a successful behaviour management process, at Marist we believe:

  • Students learn best in an environment where there are clearly defined rules and consistent methods of dealing    with misbehaviour.
  • Students learn best when teachers have helped create an environment based on good relationship and achievable    goals.
  • Students learn best when they are supported in learning responsibility for their own learning and behaviour.
  • Students learn best when their achievements are recognised and they are not in an environment founded on    criticism and the finding of errors.

    BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT TEAM

The Deputy, House Coordinators and Campus Minister monitor and organise support for students at risk. This team approach ensures students pastoral and discipline needs are consistently met. Behaviour management is the responsibility of all College members and communication to parents and their support is strongly encouraged.
